The Grande Prairie and Area Environmental Sciences Educational Society are hosting their annual Walk through the Forest event! This 3-day event takes Grade 6 six students through the Boreal Wetland Centre to learn a variety of subjects including forestry practices, wetlands, airsheds, noxious weeds, and urban forests.

We invite you to participate in this workshop bringing various industry sectors, research academia, non-profits, Indigenous communities, municipal decision makers, and construction / development groups together to discuss opportunities to further minimize environmental impacts to wetland and forest landscapes.

The home school community took part in a unique experiment in June 2023 (burying tea bags around the Wetland Centre in different wetland/upland locations and hypothesizing how quickly each would decompose). Now it’s time to dig up our tea bags to start drying, weighing, and analyzing our results!

Richard Krygier from Natural Resources Canada will be onsite collecting research data from the Seed Enhanced Ecological Delivery System (SEEDS) project. This work tests new methods to improve germination and initial seedling growth and makes it easier to place the package on favourable growing sites where a site is being treated, typically in the winter.
