Walk through the Forest

The Grande Prairie and Area Environmental Sciences Educational Society are hosting their annual Walk through the Forest event! This 3-day event takes Grade 6 six students from across the Peace Region through the Boreal Wetland Centre to learn a variety of subjects including forestry practices, wetlands, airsheds, noxious weeds, and urban forests.

Women in Outdoor Careers Summit Program

Inside Education invites you to bring female students from Grades 8 -12 for this one-day experiential learning event with local experts to explore career opportunities in various sectors including wildlife, water, energy, forestry, and more!

These no-cost experiences are fully facilitated by Inside Education and will include workshops and presentations by expert guests and bus transportation to each site. Your students will:

  • Learn from local experts such as wildlife biologists, agronomists, forest technicians, and more

  • Gain a better understanding of career and academic opportunities available to them

  • Have a hands-on learning experience that enriches the curriculum and meets CTF/CTS learning outcomes

Pitone Youth Program Medicinal Plant Walk

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre are hosting a Family Culture Camp as part of the Pitone Youth Program and will be at the Boreal Wetland Centre! Elder Lorraine Cardinal will be there to share some teachings about plant Medicines as part of a Medicine Walk at the BWC.

Seismic Line Restoration Videography & Interviews

Natural Resources Canada will be joined by DUC and Inside Education to complete videography work of the seismic line restoration research trials that NRCAN have onsite. In addition, all parties will be completing interviews as part of NRCAN’s efforts to share their research insight and learnings with the public-at-large.

Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP) day

OYEP is a six-week work experience focused on land-based education, training and work opportunities for high school aged Indigenous youth.

Participants in OYEP will go on a guided tour of the Boreal Wetland Centre where they will learn wetland classification, as well as go on a Medicine Walk with an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper.
